Caño Martín Peña Nature Reserve

San Juan

Caño Martín Peña Nature Reserve protects 194 acres of mangrove forest in the heart of San Juan's metropolitan area, hosting all four mangrove species native to Puerto Rico—red, black, white, and buttonwood—and serving as vital habitat for migratory and wading birds. The reserve encompasses wetlands that connect the Los Corozos and San José Lagoons to San Juan Bay, forming part of the only tropical estuary in the National Estuary Program. It is accessible via multiple entrances along the Enrique Martí Coll Linear Park.
