Condado Lagoon Estuarine Natural Reserve

The Condado Lagoon Estuarine Natural Reserve, designated under Act No. 112 of 2013, protects an important urban estuarine ecosystem in the heart of San Juan. The lagoon is home to mangrove forests and associated aquatic ecosystems, and is managed by the Department of Natural and Environmental Resources in collaboration with the San Juan Bay Estuary Program, the Municipality of San Juan, and a Co-Management Committee. It features a self-guided interpretive trail, a water quality monitoring program, and an artificial reef project, along with community citizen-science and environmental education initiatives through the “Friends of the Lagoon” group.
