Maricao State Forest is Puerto Rico's largest state forest with 10,803 acres spread across the western Cordillera Central between San Germán, Sabana Grande, and Maricao. It contains 1,164 plant species and 136 bird species —23 endemic to Puerto Rico— making it one of the most avian-diverse forests in the Caribbean. It offers hiking, bird watching, the Maricao Fish Hatchery (1937), and lookout towers with panoramic views.
