The Pterocarpus Forest

The Pterocarpus Forest is a 51‑acre freshwater swamp forest located in Palmas del Mar, Humacao, and one of the few remaining forests of its kind in Puerto Rico. It offers a three‑quarter‑mile walk along an elevated boardwalk that allows visitors to explore this unique ecosystem. Along the route, 18 educational stops and numerous interpretive signs explain its flora, fauna, and fungi. The forest also features an area for passive recreation and a small lake, and it is home to hundreds of species. It additionally serves as a space for environmental education, scientific research, and nature observation. Admission is free.
