Hacienda la Esperanza Nature Reserve

Manatí

Hacienda la Esperanza Nature Reserve encompasses 2,150 acres in Manatí, Puerto Rico, combining exceptional 19th-century industrial heritage with rich natural diversity. The site preserves the remains of one of Puerto Rico's most prosperous sugar plantations, including a restored manor house, an old sugar mill, and an 1861 steam engine manufactured by West Point Foundry. The natural landscape includes karst topography with sinkholes, caves, and underground streams, as well as wetlands, mangroves, estuaries, and the clear waters of Caño Boquilla estuary. The reserve is managed by Para la Naturaleza, a nonprofit unit of the Conservation Trust of Puerto Rico.
