Río Abajo State Forest lies between Utuado and Arecibo, nestled between the Tanamá River and Dos Bocas Lake in a karst zone of caves and mogotes. Designated in 1943 to protect the Río Grande de Arecibo watershed, it shelters 175 tree species and a captive breeding population of the endangered Puerto Rican parrot. It offers interpretive trails, cave exploration, camping, and picnic areas.
