Pozo de Jacinto

The wood boardwalk to Pozo de Jacinto in Isabela offers an easy, scenic walk along the coast, leading hikers to one of Puerto Rico’s most iconic natural and folkloric sites. The short trail begins near Jobos Beach and follows a wooden path over sharp limestone rock formations, opening to dramatic views of the Atlantic and the famous blowhole-like pit known as Pozo de Jacinto. According to local legend, Jacinto was a farmer in the early 1900s who tied his favorite cow’s rope around his waist. One stormy day, the frightened cow fell into the pit—dragging Jacinto with her into the raging sea. Since then, visitors shout “¡Jacinto, dame la vaca!” (“Jacinto, give me the cow!”), and the crashing waves are said to respond with force, as if Jacinto’s spirit still guards the well. This short boardwalk trail is family‑friendly, but hikers should use caution near the rocky edges and strong surf. The reward is a blend of ocean views, coastal geology, and one of Puerto Rico’s most enduring pieces of folklore—all just steps from the sand of Jobos Beach.
