Description

Charco Verde is a secluded natural pool and waterfall destination located along the Espíritu Santo River on the western side of El Yunque National Forest in Río Grande, Puerto Rico. Geared toward experienced hikers, the trek to the pool is relatively short but features highly technical terrain. The route is largely unmaintained and poorly marked, requiring navigation through dense tropical vegetation and extensive rock scrambling over large, slick river boulders. The trail culminates at a deep, emerald-colored swimming hole fed by a natural waterfall, framed by massive rock formations. Due to the trail's location within an active river canyon, hikers should possess solid route-finding skills, wear high-traction water footwear, and monitor weather conditions closely, as the area is highly susceptible to rapid flash flooding from upstream rainfall.
